Server Partner Engineer
THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN AUSTIN, TX.

We are looking for a technical and business savvy professional to join our team of engineers focused on one of our key partner. You will be responsible for developing and managing deliverables that enable an effective engineering relationship between the two companies. This is a challenging position that will be a part of a cross-functional development team that requires excellent communication, organizational, and hands-on troubleshooting and coding skills for success.

You will work with engineering groups; testing organizations; certification labs; and quality assurance teams to ensure releases of VMware and partner products are coordinated and of the highest quality. You will be expected to conduct joint project planning; organize validation and certification activities; contribute to the development of project test suites as necessary; engineering projects between the two companies; troubleshoot and triage technology enablement issues, implement and test code changes for timely response to enablement, and lead the day to day activities of the team. This position requires a high degree of coordination between engineering and alliance management teams within VMware and a high degree of focus, independence and delivery.

Responsibilities:

• Represent VMware engineering for day-to-day engineering issues that effect OEM and ESX Server interactions. You will be VMware’s point of contact for escalation, communication and updating of engineering related issues on identified projects.

Interact with both partner engineering teams and own the engineering-to-engineering relationship, participate in and lead advanced engineering discussions.

Triage technical issues that partner have during certification and interoperability testing

Test, debug, and implement code changes for timely resolution to partner issues

Represent the partner's technical issues throughout the engagement lifecycle

Engage all VMware organization as needed in order to champion partner issues (Development, Sustaining, QA, Product Management, Support)

Drive engineering, enablement, and support issues to resolution and closure

Align technical commitments on a release by release basis

• Work with the OEM’s organizations to align hardware and software releases with VMware products. This includes identification of product inter-, intra, and co-dependencies, and integration points.
• Explore and propose opportunities to perform mutually beneficial engineering projects such as early driver development for specific devices, distribution mechanism of updated drivers, early bring up of prereleases software, additional feature requests, etc.
• Facilitate issue resolution, tracking and reporting and conclusion between OEM and VMware engineering organizations.
• Coordinate efforts with OEM engineering as well as VMware engineering to assure timely release of products for joint support

Technical Requirements:

Excellent knowledge of OS kernel internals, including memory management, resource management, and interrupt architecture

Experience troubleshooting technical issues.

Strong Linux foundation

Experience making code changes

Experience troubleshooting technical issues

Understanding of system level software issues

Device driver development and debug experience

Understanding of code dependency and compatibility issues

Prior development experience with dynamic/binary translation or compilers is a plus.

Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to generate new ideas and work independently

Ability to understand complex software architectures and articulate them

• Understanding and working knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix), knowledge of software and hardware architectures (x86 preferred) and relevant technologies.

• 5-6 years experience in software development.

Non-Technical Requirements:

• Capable of organizing and managing multiple projects, setting priorities and working independently under aggressive timelines and date-driven schedules
• Ability to drive problem-solving strategies for complex problems that involve cross-functional disciplines and functions.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail a must have.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• 10-15 years Industry Experience.
• Education: BSCS or equivalent, MS preferred.
• Ability to work independently
